Biography

Raised and educated in the Colorado Rockies, Jennifer Sellers developed a close attachment to the mountains with a deep appreciation for the textures and colors found in nature. After working toward her BFA at Western State College of Colorado, she moved to Florida where she studied under Patron of the Arts, Raymond Westwater. Under his tutelage, Jennifer spent the next two years mastering the technical use of the egg tempera medium.

Feeling limited by the Florida landscape, Jennifer moved to the Pacific Northwest where she spent fourteen years expanding her repertoire; the mountains and volcanoes of the Pacific Northwest provided ample subject matter for her to develop her skills. Jennifer also has a passion for animals and the emotional connection they have to our lives.

Through her bold use of colors and expression, she captures the energy and inner spirits of our beloved pets in her original pet portraits. Jennifer believes that painting should be a spontaneous act. Colors, textures, and perspectives are used to enhance her paintings. “In the midst of a painting, I don’t always consciously know where I’m going with the work but I keep pushing paint onto canvas. Through the sculpting and blending of the paint, the final creation makes sense.

After I’ve put my last brush stroke down, I step back from my canvas and look for the first time.” I see what I have created and I think, "Yes, That is what I was trying to say.”

In the summer of 2012 Jennifer moved back to the mountains of Colorado where she continues to paint her beloved pet portraits and landscapes.
